DescriptionThe post provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for a pro-active and innovative person to coordinate the support functions of the Wellbeing Team. These functions will cover all aspects of the Learner Experience including Learner Wellbeing; Tutorial; Disciplinary and Behaviour Management; Fitness to Studies, Financial Support; Student Union Liaison and Learner Voice.
The post is part of the management team of the Learner Experience directorate and the post holder will work closely with other senior members of the team, including the Director of the Learner Experience; Head of Learner Support & Wellbeing; Counselling Coordinator, Be Active Coordinator and equivalent Wellbeing Coordinators based at other locations across the college.
The post holder will have direct line management responsibility for a team of Wellbeing Mentors.
Key Responsibilities
- To lead the Wellbeing Mentors on the designated campuses to meet the demands of specific learner needs via 1:1 support, group work or relevant online resources;
- To manage submitted wellbeing referrals, allocate to the mentoring team accordingly, and maintain regular communication with the Mentors by managing caseloads regularly and effectively;
- Encourage first, second and third assessments as part of the mentor caseload reviews;
- Provide direct support as and when required to learners relating to the functions in 2.1, 2.2 & 2.3;
- Ensure that all data and case notes are added to the appropriate IT systems;
- Attend the Wellbeing Team Lead meetings and disseminate and share information through relevant lines of communication (i.e, creating mentor team meetings, Google Chat etc);
- Contribute to the College's work on Safeguarding as a named contact for Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults;
- Promote the benefits of and contribute to the team's responsibilities on providing learner enrichment activities;
- Ensuring learner enrichment activities are provided, including supporting and promoting mentor led themed weeks in relation to national events and the tutorial programme, supporting learners with the creation of applicable clubs, groups and societies, and supervising a minimum of two hours per week of campus based drop-in activity;
- Play an active role in promoting and managing positive behaviour, collaborating with curriculum areas in providing support for learners and participating in formal panels as and when required;
- Work collaboratively with staff in the Learner Experience Directorate to attend Fitness to Study panels and contribute to action plans, offering wellbeing support;
- Work collaboratively with staff in the Learner Experience Directorate to ensure linkage with other support systems and consistency in approach across all campuses;
- Develop and maintain close internal partnerships with teaching and other staff to support the work of the Learner Experience Directorate;
- Work in partnership with a range of external agencies to support the functions relevant to learner wellbeing;
- Liaise as part of the transition process within the county 14-19 network with individual school contacts;
- Lead on the creation of Easter and Summer transition activities for those identified;
- Act as a designated lead contact for the College's work to support Looked After Children and to act as a Care Lead to support the College Carer and Young Adult Carer learners;
- Contribute towards the delivery and implementation of the College Tutorial Programme;
- To provide regular accurate data and information when requested by the Head of Learner Support and Wellbeing;
- Work as part of the Learner Experience Management Team to ensure the work of the whole Directorate meet the needs of learners and responds to external priorities;
- To act as a 'Cariad Champion', promoting the Cariad concept on the designated campuses;
- Ensure that a good example is set on staff wellbeing, regularly reminding the team on the importance of self care and all other rules set out in the 'Wellbeing Team Resolutions' doc;'
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.
Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
- Educated to HE/Degree standard or relevant experience
- Specialist qualification in Leadership and management (or be prepared to gain within 3 years)
- GCSE English & Maths at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- Experience of working with Learners with a range of Support Needs
- Experience of working with post-16 learners
- Experience of managing / supervising staff
- Experience of working in partnership with external agencies
- Ability to relate effectively to wide range of learners
- Effective organisational skills
- Ability to build a professional relationship with staff at all levels
- Ability to work collaboratively within college and with external partners
- Understanding of the breadth of learner support functions
- Good communicator with diplomacy and tact
- Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues

Welsh Language Requirements:
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 2
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 2
