About us
We are a small but growing team of specialist LSA’s working with children who are visually impaired across schools within the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

You will work 1:1 with the pupils to ensure they have access to the curriculum through tactile resources and enlarged print, as well as wider life of the school. This may include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas.

You will be expected to work under the guidance of a Qualified Teachers for Visually Impaired (QTVIs), Habilitation officer and VI Team leader.

You will also be expected to work under and with ALNCO, Class/subject teacher & members of the school leadership team to support a range of pupils with VI to access learning and wider life of the school.

You will contribute to the teachers planning cycle with the QTVI, Habilitation Officer and class / subject teachers to ensure pupils with a VI have equal access to learning.



About the role
Pay details: Level 4, Grade 6, SCP 14-19, £25,409- £27,852 pro rata + Special School Allowance (£1,401 pr)

Day/ Hours per week: 30 hours – 5 days, Term time only

Temporary position until Sept 2024, with the possibility of a further year dependent upon funding.

Description:

To provide support for visually impaired pupils across all schools within the Vale of Glamorgan. Ensuring they have access to the curriculum and acting as a practical assistant during lessons as required. You will also need to provide support to all teachers and specialists involved.



About you
You will need:

Previous and recent experience of working with children in an early years setting, preferably with children with a visual Impairment.
Excellent IT skills, along with experience of working with different software programmes.
Experience of working with children individually and in groups
Experience of working with specialist teachers, providing feedback and evaluations
Experience of planning / adapting short activities for pupils
Excellent pupil/teacher relationships
Experience of monitoring and assessing pupils’ progress
Excellent communication skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Flexible approach to working
A willingness to learn Braille.
