Purpose of Post:

The post-holder will lead a small team responsible for:

• accrediting Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes in Wales and monitoring their compliance with Welsh Government criteria; and
• accrediting/quality assuring other programmes or provision in Wales, as required.

Responsibilities:

The Accreditation and Quality Manager will:

Initial teacher education accreditation

• Develop and maintain effective methodologies, procedures and processes, in line with legislative requirements, to:
 accredit programmes of ITE in Wales against the national “Criteria for the accreditation of ITE”;
 monitor compliance of programmes with the Criteria for the duration of their period of accreditation;
 withdraw accreditation of ITE programmes;
 hear appeals;
• Ensure accurate and efficient implementation of the methodologies, procedures and processes:
 act as the main point of contact for ITE Partnership queries ;
 ensure the submission of complete and relevant documentation for the accreditation/monitoring of programmes;
 oversee the arrangements and preparations for the assessment/monitoring of programmes;
 attend programme assessments/monitoring and ensure a full understanding of proceedings and a record of decisions;
 draft accreditation/monitoring decision reports;
• Work closely with and support the ITE Accreditation Board (an appointed group of experts to whom EWC delegates responsibility for accrediting ITE programmes):
 manage Board member recruitment, member numbers/expertise, documentation, annual performance reviews and annual training;
 arrange Board meetings (typically three annually);
 support and guide the ITE Accreditation Board on matters of legislation, procedure and process;
• Lead modelling work, in collaboration with the Welsh Government, the ITE Accreditation Board and EWC’s data team to allocate student numbers to accredited programmes annually, monitor intake monthly and report to Welsh Government; and
• Work closely with the Welsh Government, Estyn, USCET, ITE Partnerships and other relevant stakeholders in further developing and maintaining the standard of ITE provision in Wales.

Quality assurance of other programmes or provision

• As the EWC’s accreditation and quality assurance work evolves, to take lead responsibility for other specific work strands in this field; and
• Work with the Welsh Government and other relevant stakeholders on opportunities to
accredit/quality assure other national programmes/provision, and develop systems to support these, as required.

General / Other

• Manage the budgets for ITE accreditation and other quality assurance activities;
• Develop Council/Committee papers, reports and management updates on accreditation/quality assurance as required;
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the Welsh language, Equality and General Data Protection regulations;
• Contribute to the EWC’s developing policy work in the general area of professional development, professional standards and professional recognition; and
• Undertake any other duties as directed by the Director or Chief Executive as commensurate with the post and grade.
