Following the successful implementation of a two-year pilot, Rhondda Cynon Taf wishes to appoint an appropriately qualified and experienced educational leader with a track record of innovative practice to build upon the local authority’s successful two-year Virtual School Model pilot, to establish an effective permanent Virtual School for Children Looked After / care experienced. This is a key element of the Council’s ambition to improve the educational outcomes for its learners who are looked after / care experienced. The post holder would take up the post from 1st September 2024 or as soon as possible.

This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with the Rhondda Cynon Taf Education and Children’s Services, schools across the local authority, local further education colleges and a range of external partners and stakeholders to develop a transformational integrated approach to supporting the wellbeing of CLA learners and improving their educational outcomes and life chances.

Ideally, successful applicants will have experience of working at a strategic level in a school and or local authority and will have a passion for promoting the educational achievement of children who are in care and care leavers. The successful post holder will have senior level experience of supporting vulnerable learners in educational settings and will be able to demonstrate the impact of their leadership on improved educational outcomes for children.

The post holder will have excellent understanding of educational legislation pertinent to children looked after and will take a creative, solution -focused approach to removing barriers to the educational success of this particularly vulnerable cohort of learners.

The successful postholder will be expected to work across both English and Welsh medium school settings and will have a core role in ensuring that children looked after with additional learning needs (ALN) receive appropriate Additional Learning Provision (ALP). As such, the post holder will need to have the ability to communicate fluently in both English and Welsh.
