We are looking to appoint someone who will play an important lead role in continuously improving safeguarding awareness and standards across our schools and LA education services. You will need to be passionate about safeguarding and committed to protecting children and young people.

You will directly line manage the Deputy Education Safeguarding Officer who, between you, will provide advice to schools and other education professionals; develop robust safeguarding policies and practice; contributing to the work of the local safeguarding board; and monitor the use of Pastoral Support Plans (PSPs) in our schools.

Prioritisation will be key to ensure that you can juggle the variety of competing demands the role brings. You should be able to deliver informative training sessions to a diverse group of people. Establishing rapport and trust will be essential to be effective in this role as well as maintaining a high level of confidentiality whilst managing individual cases.

You should be able to demonstrate:
  • A passion and vision for safeguarding children and an in-depth knowledge of child protection practice and procedures;
  • An ability to deliver training to headteachers, governors, designated safeguarding persons and other staff groups;
  • Confidence and experience to challenge practice and procedures when necessary and the ability to promote the sharing of good practice;
  • An ability to work in close partnership with colleagues across schools and the directorate with a focus on safeguarding children and protecting the most vulnerable.
You will need to possess excellent communication and presentation skills and have the ability to command the respect and confidence of professionals from all levels. You will work closely with statutory agencies and contribute to the further development of multi-agency partnership working.

From time to time, you might be asked to investigate, analyse, interpret and evaluate complex safeguarding cases and write detailed reports.

Experience of working with schools and families is essential, as is an excellent working knowledge of local and national child protection procedures.

You will have solid experience in this or a similar role relating to the protection and welfare of children.

This post is subject to Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure.

You must have the ability to travel extensively throughout the County Borough.

For an informal discussion, please contact: Mr. John Burge, Co-ordinator, Child and Family Support Team j.burge@npt.gov.uk or Mrs. Sam Jones Lead Manager, Child & Family Support s.jones3@npt.gov.uk
