Lliswerry High School is a thriving, multi-cultural, 11-18 mixed comprehensive school on the eastern side of Newport close to the M4. We currently have a superb opportunity for a talented, passionate and highly motivated teaching assistant to join our school as part of our highly successful literacy team, focussed on delivering small group literacy intervention to support the skills development of our learners starting from 2nd September 2024.

Here at Lliswerry, we see skills as vital to the development of our learners, both academically and personally; enabling our learners to play a full part in work and life beyond school. This is why it is core to our school mission.

Over the last four years, our literacy journey has seen our literacy provision go from strength to strength, being shared as examples of good practice across the region. The successful candidate will be a strong team player, who will join an established and enthusiastic team, delivering individual and small group intervention programmes to build literacy skills. The successful candidate will be working with a range of learners, including those with additional learning needs. As part of the team, the successful candidate will be supported to take an active role in ensuring our literacy intervention programmes successfully meet the needs of our learners. We strive to ensure our ethos of ‘improve’ is reflected in both provision and literacy standards, and the successful candidate will be supported by both middle and senior leaders to achieve this.

We can offer the successful candidate a robust programme of professional learning, including programmes designed to support the context of the community we serve. The successful candidate will be joining a team where collaboration is at the core of its culture. Alongside this, we also offer an induction programme to new staff to join us feeling supported and welcomed from day one.

The ideal candidate will have experience delivering interventions to learners. In addition, you will have NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or an equivalent qualification. A professional approach to providing support and building positive relationships is essential in this role. Lliswerry High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

As an employee of Newport City Council, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of a generous pension scheme, discounted Newport Live membership as well as other benefits including the Cycle to Work Scheme. Please see link below for further details.
