The role of the Hub Officer is to Enable Welsh Rugby to Thrive and develop individuals through rugby union delivery within the establishment and local community.

The Hub Officer will be required to Enable Welsh Rugby to Thrive via activity that engages participants of all abilities within a fully inclusive rugby programme. Including developing individuals as coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers, as well as participants (regardless of ability and gender) with established links to all education, WRU and Community Stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • In a school, the Hub Officer will primarily be required to promote and develop rugby in curriculum time, and to establish extra-curricular activity which engages boys and girls of all abilities within a fully inclusive rugby programme - including development as coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers, as well as participants with established links to club/cluster and community provision;
  • The Hub Officer will be required to drive programmes of participation which recruit or retain participants within the game after the age of 16, while also contributing to the wider development of rugby within associated feeder schools, including development of coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers, with established links to club/cluster and community provision;
  • At Coleg Sir Gâr, the Hub Officer will provide the following service to the elite level academy players:
  • Team specific coaching sessions
  • Position specific training
  • Detailed position specific performance feedback
  • Detailed team reviews and preview for the Coleg Sir Gâr first team
  • Through this and other activities the Hub Officer will contribute to the objectives of the Educational settings relating to the academic attainment, engagement and enrichment of students; to the development of rugby union more widely within the Educational settings; and to the health and wellbeing of the community within which the Educational setting is located.

    Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
    • A current Rugby Coaching qualification at minimum level 1
    • Emergency First Aid at Work qualification (if not held, undertake and achieve within an agreed timescale)
    • MiDAS minibus driver's qualification (if not held, undertake and achieve within an agreed timescale)
    • Level 2 WRU/RFU rugby coaching qualification (or higher)
    • Involvement as a player or coach in an elite rugby environment
    • Minimum 12 months' experience working within rugby developmentand coaching at an academy or in an elite rugby environment
    • Relevant experience working within sports development and/or community development
    • Experience of coaching and/or working with children and young people
    • Experience of working with volunteers
    • Experience and understanding of health and safety requirements in a rugby or sporting environment
    Desirable Criteria:
    • Rugby referee qualification (WRU Level 1)
    • Safeguarding Children and Young People training/qualification
    • Experience as a coach or workforce developer
    • Experience of working in a primary, secondary or further education environment
    Welsh Language Requirements:
    • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
    • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
