About the Role:
Cardiff and Vale College's Foundation Learning department is seeking a Job Coach to support learners whilst on group and individual work placements. This role will be vital in ensuring that young people leave their placements ready to make appropriate choices about progressing to independent or supported work. This role will offer the candidate the opportunity to develop their skills in a growing team recognised for their impact on working to ensure that learners with ALN and/or disabilities progress towards their intended outcome.
As well as working to directly support the learners' success on placement, the Job Coach will liaise with host employers. This will involve job carving, to ensure that workplace mentors feel confident with how to structure tasks for learners and working with host businesses to solve problems as they occur on placements. For this reason, the successful candidate will be confident and calm in challenging situations, and able to communicate with people confidently that work at a range of levels within businesses.
Who you'll be working with:
You'll work within our Foundation Learning Department and be based at our City Centre campus with requirement to also travel to other CAVC sites as when required. Cardiff and Vale College's Foundation Learning department deliver courses for young people with Additional Learning Needs and/or Disabilities and those at risk of becoming NEET. The department grows year on year and our curriculum for 2023/24 includes 31 courses for 400+ potential learners.
You'll work directly alongside our departmental staff including Lecturers, Tutors, Departmental Technicians and Engagement Officers.
About You:
You will display a person centred and solution focused approach, working with learners to overcome both real and perceived barriers to work. You'll be an outstanding communicator with strong computer literacy skills.
You'll have proven experience of working as a Job Coach alongside knowledge of the barriers faced by disabled and disadvantaged long term unemployed in accessing employment.
Whilst the ability to speak Welsh is not essential for the role, we would love to hear from candidates who are fluent and can engage with learners through the medium of Welsh.
