Primary Teacher (Welsh Assembly Conversion Programme)

Fixed Term Contract until 31/08/2026

The school is keen to appoint a Primary Teacher who is interested in transferring to the secondary sector as part of the Welsh Government's transition plan. The aim of the plan is to increase the number of Welsh-medium teachers within the secondary sector. As part of the scheme you will join the teaching team at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy for a year and receive support in teaching within the secondary sector. We invite applications from enthusiastic and progressive teachers from the primary sector who are interested in broadening their experiences in a secondary school. In addition, applications are welcomed from primary and secondary teachers who want to return to teaching in Wales or teachers who want to return to the profession.

Ysgol y Creuddyn is a designated Welsh medium school located in Penrhyn Bay, near Llandudno. There are currently just over 700 learners at the school, including 93 Sixth Form students. The school has a caring and family feel and an inclusive ethos. We are proud of our enthusiastic and hard-working team of staff who are passionate about offering the best provision, support and experiences to our learners in terms of their "Dawn, eu Dysg a'i Daioni"

The pilot scheme offers a year of employment at Ysgol Y Creuddyn to observe and teach within a specialist subject or subjects. In collaboration with Bangor University you will receive support to successfully transfer to teaching in the secondary sector. There will be a specific focus on the following aspects:

  • Lesson planning
  • Assessment, marking and feedback
  • Class management
  • Develop tenacity
  • Linguistic skills (depending on the needs of the individual).

You will have a Professional Supporter within the school who will maintain a regular professional dialogue in order to support you. Your schedule will offer extended periods for planning, research and observation as well as a learning schedule.

We look for enthusiastic individuals who have a solid vision for developing pupils into independent, confident and successful learners. This opportunity is open to full-time or part-time applications.

This scheme has been supported by the Welsh Government and is available to applicants across Wales.
