The children, staff and Governors are looking to appoint a dedicated and inspirational Deputy Headteacher to join our vibrant and successful school and work in partnership with the Headteacher. This is an exciting opportunity to join our welcoming and caring school and work with a talented and motivated team of staff who help, support and challenge each other.

The school is situated in the village of Clydach, Swansea and is easily accessible from the M4. It serves the parishes of St. Benedict's Clydach and Sacred Heart, Ystradgynlais, and provides education to around 246 pupils aged 3-11 from around the local area. St Joseph is a vibrant and inclusive Catholic school community committed to providing a high-quality education for all learners. We are proud of our strong ethos of collaboration, innovation, and a focus on supporting the individual needs of our pupils.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced leader to join our team as Deputy Headteacher, with a particular focus on leading and developing our Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision.

Governors are committed to appointing a Deputy Headteacher who:
  • is a practising Catholic with a clear vision of excellence within Catholic Primary Education and a strong personal Catholic faith which will inspire staff, children and parents.
  • is an excellent classroom practitioner with experience across the whole of the primary phase;
  • has strong strategic leadership skills and a commitment to take a leading role in maintaining high standards of teaching and learning, enabling every child to reach their full potential;
  • has a thorough knowledge of the Curriculum for Wales, innovative principles of teaching, learning and assessment approaches, methods and techniques;
  • has a high level of digital competency;
  • has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to motivate and inspire others to maintain our excellent shared vision, culture and positive ethos;
  • demonstrates patience, kindness, and empathy and will build on the excellent links that have been established with local cluster primary schools, families, the parish and the wider community;
  • will be a leader with an in depth understanding of the approaches to self-evaluation and school improvement.
  • can lead and develop our school's approach to supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs;
  • will have the necessary skills to deputise for the headteacher
  • aspires to be a Headteacher.

The successful candidate will be appointed by the governing body to the Catholic Education Service contract. Governors will support the successful candidate in all aspects of school life; thereby creating a culture of effective leaning and development throughout the school and its wider community.
