The Governing Body of Maesgwyn Special School are seeking to appoint an innovative teacher who is passionate teaching pupils with additional needs. The ideal candidate will have the vision to promote the highest standards of attainment and wellbeing for young people with complex additional needs and including those with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). The successful candidate will be able to use innovative approaches to engage pupils with complex additional learning needs. Experience of teaching pupils with additional needs is desirable especially in a single class setting delivering a range of curriculum areas with an innovative and engaging approach. Further experience of working with pupils with ASD will be a distinct advantage for this role.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified teacher to lead a Key Stage 3 class for learners with a range of complex additional learning needs, primarily Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The class follows a primary-based model, with pupils remaining in one setting for most of the day while accessing specialist subject areas as needed.
This role is suitable for both primary, secondary-trained and specialist provision teachers who are eager to contribute to an established, successful, and forward-thinking school that values innovation and supports new ideas and initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who:
- Holds qualified teacher status (QTS) with a background in either primary, secondary education or special needs settings.
- Has experience working with pupils with a range of additional learning needs, demonstrating a strong understanding of inclusive and adaptive teaching strategies.
- Is a consistently good to outstanding practitioner with a strong understanding of effective pedagogy.
- Has a passion for teaching and learning and is committed to raising standards for all pupils.
- Can motivate and inspire pupils of all abilities to achieve their full potential.
- Has high expectations for pupil progress, engagement, and behaviour.
- Is skilled in delivering engaging and interactive lessons that foster curiosity and a love for learning.
- Is committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
- Works effectively as part of a team and contributes to the wider life of the school.
- Is adaptable, innovative, and willing to embrace new approaches in teaching and assessment.
- Prioritises pupil wellbeing, creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered.
- Understands and implements the latest wellbeing practices, recognising the link between emotional health and academic success.
- Have a firm knowledge and understanding of working with pupils with a diagnosis of autism.
- Be a strong communicator who is able to modify language to meet individual needs.
- Have a vision for learning in nature and are enthusiastic about nature and the great outdoors.
