DescriptionThe Corporate Board is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic, and innovative individual to join our A-Level teaching team. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive professional who is passionate about delivering high-quality education and contributing to the continued success and reputation of the College. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrate initiative, and consistently strive for excellence in teaching and learning.

The A-Level Curriculum Area offers a broad and vibrant programme, including AS and A Levels, Diplomas in Criminology and Applied Science, and the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (ASBW). Most of our AS/A2 students are enrolled on the ASBW programme, and the successful applicant will play a key role in its delivery. In addition, the postholder will act as a Personal Tutor to a designated AS or A2 tutor group, supporting students' academic progress and well-being.

We have established strong links with our partner schools, helping Year 11 pupils make informed decisions about their post-16 education and supporting their transition to college life. The appointed lecturer will be expected to actively contribute to the maintenance and development of these important partnerships.

This role is based at the Graig Campus and sits within the A-Level and Lifelong Learning faculty.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach AS/A Level English Literature and English Language and Literature;
  • Teach on Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales classes within the A Level curriculum area;
  • To deliver the college-wide PSHE Tutorial programme as well as A Level specific tutorials;
  • Contribute to the development of commercial courses and projects;
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.

Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
Desirable Criteria:
  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post-16 education
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
  • Awareness of key performance indicators
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
  • A current driving licence
  • Willingness to drive a college minibus
  • Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
