DescriptionThe Faculty of Creativity and Skills is looking to appoint a dynamic, forward thinking animal science lecturer who has vision and drive to work with the existing team in the future direction of the animal science provision at Coleg Ceredigion.
The post provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for a pro-active and innovative person willing to deliver an outstanding animal science provision to learners from Entry Level to Degree level.
Undertaking curriculum planning and delivery, you will prepare learning materials of a high professional standard and work flexibly. The postholder will be enthusiastic, pro-active and ambitious.
Animal science programmes range from Further Education courses at Entry Level 3, Level 1 to Level 6. Learners benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular activity and a well embedded tutorial support system.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of programmes of study leading to qualifications within Animal science from Entry Level 3, Level 1 to Level 6;
- Take on the role of a Learning Area Programme Lead (LAP leader) for one cohort and contribute to the management of this subject area;
- Provide support, as a member of the team in the administration and resource development within the area;
- Assist in the provision of Animal science through liaison with industry and in the potential development of commercial courses;
- Contribute to the quality of provision through the internal verification system;
- Prepare relevant teaching material for assigned subjects;
- Prepare resource materials and facilities in support of the assigned teaching;
- Undertake all assessment activity to assigned subjects;
- Ensure all classroom and practical training facilities comply with health and safety and other legislative requirements;
- Liaise with third party stakeholders as identified by faculty management, including, sector skills councils, HE institutions, industry bodies, employers etc;
- Organise work placement opportunities and monitor the learner experience;
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.
Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
- Relevant degree or equivalent Higher Education/Advanced qualification
- Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at
the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date) - GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
- Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
- Relevant practical/industrial experience in animal sciences
- Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
- Sound understanding of digital literacy
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
- Relevant teaching experience
- Business experience in the land based industries
- A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
- A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
- Awareness of key performance indicators
- Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
- Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
- Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
- A current driving licence and use of a car
- Willingness to drive a college minibus
- Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities
