Contract Type: Fixed Term post until 31/03/2024 term time only, funded by the Welsh Government

Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week, 40 weeks a year

We are currently looking for an Attendance support Officer to join our team. Attendance at school is a legal requirement, which has become a priority across Wales; regular attendance at school has huge benefits to the young person to enable them to achieve their potential. Working as part of a wider team, you will provide support to the Education Welfare Officers, schools, pupils and parents/carers to ensure regular attendance at school for all pupils. You will work to identify the cause of absences and provide early intervention support; ensuring pupil voice is ascertained at all times, to help remove any barriers to engagement.

On occasions where improvement is not successful and there are no acceptable reasons for the level of absence, enforcement will be obtained through fixed penalty notices and for more serious cases Court action might be necessary via the schools Education Welfare Officer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for - supporting schools and the Education welfare Officers to ensure all children and young people of statutory school age, attend school regularly.

The main duties of the post;
  • Effective tracking of the movements of young people, moving out of county.
  • undertaking register consultations.
  • Ensuring regular attendance at school.
  • Supporting schools and the Education Welfare Officers
  • Attending meetings
  • Supporting and advising when there are difficulties and/or barriers preventing access to education.
  • Targeted Attendance Support (TAS), daily absence response, meet and greets, truancy patrols, target groups, and other tailored initiatives for specific schools.
You will have experience in/of;

To be successful in this role you must have experience of partnership working and be able to demonstrate positive support to children, young people and their families gaining improved outcomes.

Experience of working with schools and improving the outcomes of children is essential, along with a solid understand of the use of management information systems such as SIMS/EMS/Capita One or other similar systems.

Ideally you will have;

-Minimum education qualification of GCSE passes in 4 subjects at grade C or above, one of which must be either English or Welsh, plus Mathematics, or a qualification of a comparable level.
