At the Welsh Centre for International Affairs, we offer a range of learning opportunities including professional learning for teachers and leaders; resources, events and projects for students and action projects for young people. Our global learning programme falls in line with the Ethical Citizenship purpose of the New Curriculum and enables individuals to develop the 21st Century skills that are so key to the world we are living in.
For Teachers, we offer Professional learning including supporting research for the new curriculum, developing creativity and citizenship in the classroom and how to to measure and develop skills in debate, critical thinking and discussion. We also work with teachers to develop innovative projects and we have a wide range of resources to support teachers in carrying out projects around global issues - including the topics of climate change, migration, the impact of fast fashion and mobile phones on the environment.
Our work with students includes face-to-face projects for social action such as Changemakers, training in debate skills and argument development and Model United Nations. Our United Nations form both national events (with many schools invited to attend) and we also run them as "in school" events to enhance global citizenship.
‘The WCIA’s Peace Schools Scheme supports schools to develop a whole-school, cross-curricular approach, embedding peace issues into the school ethos and learning. The Scheme supports learners’ development as healthy, confident individuals and ethical informed citizens of Wales and the world.’
‘Wales Young Peacemakers Awards’. These annual awards enable children and young people to creatively express their views and aspirations for peace and sustainability in a variety of ways, and to be publicly celebrated for their work.’
WCIA's international volunteering programme is an incredible way of experiencing the world, while making a difference to another community and adding something special to your CV. Coming together and working as part of an international team on a local community project or with a non-profit organisation, provides a learning opportunity about different cultures, attitudes and ways of living
