Llanidloes High School

Llanidloes High School may well be the happiest, high-achieving school in Wales. As a prior Inspector and Challenge Adviser, I had the privilege of supporting and evaluating secondary school provision up and down the country. When visiting Llanidloes, I was always struck by the vibrant and flourishing learning culture, deeply caring ethos and exceptional commitment of staff. Everyone goes the extra mile to ensure each and every pupil's experience of school is as happy as possible. The school has outperformed the Welsh Government's modelled outcomes for five successive years in the number of pupils achieving five GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English or Welsh and Mathematics. Only a tiny handful of schools across the country have managed that feat. Last year, A-level results placed the Sixth Form in The Times Top 10 in Wales. Indeed, the Sixth Form has a strong history of supporting pupils to achieve places at Oxford, Cambridge and many other Russell Group Universities. We will continue to ensure our most able students have an open door to world class higher education when they leave us for pastures new.
