Jigsaw, the considered approach to PSE (Personal, Social, Health Education) Including statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education (England 2019)
Welcome by Jan Lever, Creator and CEO, PSHE Jigsaw
Jigsaw 3-16 is the culmination of 35+ years of experience as a teacher, local authority education adviser and psychotherapist, and is my contribution to supporting schools in providing high quality PSE that meets their students' needs, helps them to know how to be healthy and happy, which underpins their ability to learn and their academic success.
I believe that social and interpersonal skills are essential, and that emotional literacy and positive mental health are key for young people to thrive in school and in life. They need to be smart and considerate to discuss the many influences they have and they need to know that they have a voice and can make a difference.
Therefore, woven throughout the Jigsaw programs there is a strong focus on developing these personal attributes in a structured, age appropriate and developmental way. The philosophy of mindfulness underpins the program and mindfulness is built into every lesson, aimed at supporting self-regulation, self-awareness and stress management.
