PUPIL / FAMILY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER
Hours: 16.5 hours per week – Term Time
Salary: Grade 6 (£25,979 x 39.17%) + Special Class Allowance

A post has arisen for a flexible and enthusiastic Pupil/Family Engagement Officer.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a secondary age Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in a newly refurbished building in the Aberdare area, serving the whole of RCT and learners from age 11 to 16 years.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre offers specialist provision for up to 60 learners with behavioural, emotional and social needs that cannot be met in their mainstream school. Learners are a mixture of full and part time (KS3 only) and access a broad and balanced curriculum of core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and a range of vocational and foundation subjects. Ty Gwyn is a trauma informed setting and has trained staff extensively in this area to support learners.
You will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics:
• Be flexible, reliable and patient and exhibit a calm, professional manner at all times;
• Have excellent literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and be able to work as part of a team; (knowledge of the SIMS system would be advantageous);
• Have the ability to build positive relationships with both children and their families, having an understanding of children’s social, emotional and behavioural needs as a barrier to learning;
• Support pupils and families to ensure regular attendance and implement initiatives in order to promote and improve attendance;
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with our parents and carers, members of our Governing Body, our wider community and other professional agencies to support the wellbeing of our families;
• Have an innovative and flexible approach, and will use their own initiative to set up and organise family learning and support groups and access funding streams to further support pupils and families;
• Have experience of Child protection procedures and whole school safeguarding measures;
• Be committed to professional development.
As an Pupil/Family Engagement Officer you will be supporting and guiding children and young people to make positive choices and engage in learning. You will be a role model, a lifelong learner and a trusted responsible figure. You will providing support in response to need dynamically, working with children, young people and families at a focussed level. You will need to be able to use ICT proficiently to record and share important information and contribute to reports and meetings in this area.
