Several jobs are available for primary teachers with an interest in converting to the secondary sector as part of the Welsh Government’s Welsh-Medium Conversion Programme (Cynllun Pontio). The programme aims to increase the number of Welsh-medium secondary school teachers. As part of the programme, you would join an education team in a secondary school for a year and receive support while teaching within the secondary sector. We welcome application from enthusiastic and bold primary teachers who have an interest in expanding their experience in a secondary school. We also welcome applications from primary and secondary teachers who wish to return to teach in Welsh in Wales, and teachers who are returning to the profession after 5 years or more.
The programme offers a year of employment in a school to observe and teach in a specialist subject or across specialist subjects. You will receive support to successfully convert to teaching in the secondary sector. There will be a particular focus on the following themes:
• lesson planning techniques
• assessments, marking and feedback
• classroom management
• developing resilience
• linguistic support: based on individual need
Individuals will have access to a professional support teacher within the school, who will be responsible for holding a professional dialogue to support them. Your timetable will include time to plan, research and observe as well as the teaching timetable.
Locations:
Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend County, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cardiff County.
How to Apply:
Download and complete the application form and submit via email by Friday 23 February 2024.
You will be asked to name three schools, in preference order, at which you would like to teach; if your application is successful, we will facilitate this placement for you.
