Cover Supervisors are non-teaching staff who work within Secondary Schools.
No formal teaching qualifications are required however to be educated to degree level is a benefit but a good level of Maths and English is essential as is experience of working with young people (preferably within the classroom).

As a Supply Cover Supervisor, you are expected to supervise a class on a short-term basis without the presence of a Teacher. The role of a cover supervisor is not to engage in 'specified work' but to classroom manage, maintain discipline and ensure that pre-prepared work is completed by pupils.

SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL: -
• Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
• Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
• Contribute to the overall ethos/ work/ aims of the school.
• Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
• Attend relevant meetings as required.
• Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
• Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
• To participate actively in supporting the principles and practice of equality of opportunity as per the school’s policy.
• To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions and to comply with all health and safety legislation as appropriate and to comply with the school health and safety Policy.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: -
• General understanding of national curriculum and other basic learning programme/strategies.
• Understanding of some of the barriers to learning pupils may face.
• Successful candidates should have a good standard of literacy and numeracy and good communication skills.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: -
• Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with pupils, other staff and parents.
• Have enthusiasm for helping pupils achieve their full potential.
• Be able to inspire and engage young people.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Able to use technology-computer, DVD, photocopier etc.
• Administration skills.
