Leighton Primary School is a community primary school situated in the village of Leighton, just outside Welshpool, with easy access to Shrewsbury and Oswestry. There are currently 74 full time pupils on roll between the ages of 4 and 11. Pupils attending the school come from Leighton and the surrounding communities. The predominant language of nearly all pupils is English.

The school was inspected by Estyn in June 2023 and found to be in need of significant improvement. We have a detailed post-inspection action plan and, together with bespoke support from the local authority, we are working hard and making good progress in addressing all the Estyn recommendations.

The school makes good daytime use of the adjacent village hall and car park. The grounds encompass a playground and large playing field, together with access to all-weather tennis courts which are shared with the local community. We have a garden area with planting troughs outside the foundation learning classroom and there is also a lovely, shared forest school area.

We have thriving breakfast and after-school clubs. We are open to new and creative ideas and believe in the potential of every child in our care.

We would welcome a visit from you to our school - please contact the Headteacher, Mr Lyn Harte, on 01938 553261, to arrange a mutually convenient time.
