Thornwell Primary School is a dynamic and forward-thinking school who are looking for a teaching assistant to support pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties and complex needs. This will be a challenging yet very rewarding role.

The Purpose of this Role:-
• To work under the instruction and guidance of teaching and or members of the school leadership team.
• To support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning.
• To assist the teacher in the management of pupils within the classroom, outside area and beyond.
• To contribute to the teacher’s planning cycle to ensure all pupils have equal access to learning.
• To support 1:1 pupils with specific annd complex needs as directed by the school leadership team or additional learning needs co-ordinator if required.
• To adapt planning to suit a child with complex needs and to deliver a personalised and and targeted currciuuum.
• Understand how to support the complex needs of children with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties
• Have high expectations and be committed to inclusion for all children and their families
• A proven ability to work on their own initiative.
• A high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults.

Your responsibilities are to:-
• Supervise and provide targeted support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
• Assist with the learning and development of all pupils, including the implementation of Individual development plans and Personal Care programmes - including toileting, feeding and mobility.
• Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
• Encourage pupils to interact with the others and engage in activities led by the teacher / child / children.
• Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
• Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
• Apply strategies to encourage independence and self-confidence.
• Provide effective feedback to pupils in relation to programmes and recognise and reward achievement.
• To follow school and LA policies and procedures on Safeguarding and Child Protection in all work with children and families.
• To follow the guidance linked with Trauma informed practise, wellbeing, equity verses equality processes.
• To support the schools ambition to be bilingual through daily ue of the welsh language and a desire to continually improve welsh language skills.
• To provide information to relevant outside agencies.
