DescriptionColeg Sir Gar has an exciting and rare opportunity for a Hairdressing and Barbering lecturer to join our experienced team on maternity cover on a part time basis, with the opportunity to pick up additional hours.

The post will give an innovative and passionate individual the opportunity to work alongside Directors, Heads of Curriculums & Lecturers to develop and deliver high-quality teaching experiences across FE, WBL and school link delivery. You will demonstrate excellence and innovation through your day-to-day teaching and learning practice, along with the ability to communicate and share best practices.

About the RoleThe main purpose will be to:
  • Contribute to all forms of pedagogic work including classroom teaching, tutorial work and associated outreach duties, residential, open and distance learning courses and learner work placements. This will normally entail associated organisational administrative work, preparation and assessment, internal verification, learner targets and tracking, learner support and appropriate welfare and academic counselling responsibilities.
  • Undertake the delivery of teaching, assessment and coordination of programmes of study ranging from 14-16 School Link provision, WBL, Levels 1-3 in Hairdressing at Coleg Sir Gar ;
  • Manage, coordinate and run a range of commercial salons, providing support for practical assessments
  • Work with Hair and Beauty colleagues, managers, directors and stakeholders to ensure an effective learner programme of industry-related workshops and masterclasses making sure that learners have a wide range of opportunities to engage with the hair and beauty industry.
  • Prepare learners for entering competitions both Nationally and Internationally mentoring the learners through the process and accompany learners when required.
  • Share good practices to support CPD within the hair and beauty team.
  • Plan and effectively carry out quality assurance activities following the quality calendar within Hair and Beauty.
  • Promote full and part-time curriculum courses and commercial salon to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Contribute to developing extra-curricular activities
  • Carry out interviewing of potential new learners, provide guidance, induction, initial assessment, and meet targets on retention, attendance and successful completion.
  • Undertake the personal tutor role
The day-to-day role will see you engaged in delivering, assessing, and supporting our learners whilst developing underpinning knowledge and practical hairdressing skills, running commercial salons. No two days are the same in this fast-paced and dynamic area.

What you will needTo be successful in the role, you will need:
  • Degree or equivalent Qualification
  • Teaching Qualification
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Recent/relevant experience within the hairdressing and Barbering Industry
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Assessor/ IQA qualifications
Whilst it is not essential, additional qualifications to demonstrate lifelong learning would be desired, alongside a good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education, and awareness of key performance indicators.

Welsh Language Requirements:
  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level
