DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated and passionate ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Lecturer to join our team on a 0.4 basis. The post of Lecturer in ESOL is important for the future of the College and for our community. As a team member, you will plan and deliver high-quality and engaging ESOL lessons to learners with varying levels of written and oral English language skills aged 16-18, studying full-time college programmes. You will monitor and assess student progress and provide feedback to support development. The successful candidate will foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages learners' participation, collaboration and cultural understanding. You will also collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching and learning experiences, stay informed about best practices in ESOL instruction and participate in professional development activities.
The successful candidate will require passion, enthusiasm and commitment to build the skills and confidence of learners from diverse backgrounds, helping learners achieve their language learning goals to enable them to progress in all aspects of college education, daily life and employment, as well as successfully integrate into the wider community.

You will need exceptional communication skills and the ability to prioritise and adapt to a challenging workload. Experience of delivering ESOL sessions to learners in a further education or similar setting is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of the programmes of study leading to qualifications within the ESOL suite.
  • Be a member of the College Quality Team and work with colleagues to ensure the quality of the ESOL programme at the College;
  • Liaise with the Faculty Management teams to identify progression opportunities for learners at course completion.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support the pastoral needs of the learners to enhance effective engagement with learning including sign posting to additional and specialist support where needed.
  • Liaise with the course management team to develop enrichment opportunities for ESOL learners to thrive outside of the classroom.
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.

Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • L5 TEFL or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification (PGCE within 2 years of employment if not already achieved)
  • GCSE English & Maths at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
Desirable Criteria:
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
  • Awareness of key performance indicators
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
