As part of its strategic commitment to help improve educational standards in Wales, Swansea University has established the Department of Education and Childhood Studies. The Department has already launched an innovative suite of research led and research orientated programmes in Education. The Department and schools across South Wales have formed the Swansea University Schools’ Partnership (SUSP) to deliver programmes of Initial Teacher Education (ITE). Following the successful launch of its secondary ITE programme, the Department is expanding to deliver a primary ITE programme which will begin in 2022. The programme develops the professional knowledge and effective pedagogic practice that will meet the challenges set out in the Welsh Government’s document “Education in Wales: our national mission”.
To achieve this, the Department is looking to appoint an ITE Senior Lecturer to support the development of student teachers across the primary age-phases and Areas of Learning Experience (AoLE). We would welcome applicants with expertise in humanities and expressive arts. The successful applicants will be based in the School of Social Sciences, but some duties may take place in the wider context of Swansea University and across the Swansea University Schools’ Partnership. The post-holder will be line managed by the Head of Department and will work alongside a team of other Primary and Secondary Lecturers/Senior Lecturers that operate across a range of subjects, age phases and Areas of Learning Experience. In addition to their ITE related duties, the Primary Senior Lecturer will develop their research, mentoring and coaching skills and use these to enhance the delivery of ITE and develop student teachers as ‘research informed reflective practitioners’ that can deliver continued improvement in schools as required by the Welsh Assembly Government.
