About The Service
The Education Welfare Service works in close partnership with schools, other professionals within the LA, the Health Service and other statutory and voluntary agencies in Cardiff in order to promote and enforce regular and punctual school attendance of children of compulsory school age who reside in Cardiff.

About the job
As an Education Welfare Officer, you will need to work closely with colleagues in schools, other professionals, pupils and their families to identify problems, personal and/or social issues that may affect the attendance, progress, and well being of children and young people. You may, on occasions, be expected to undertake legal proceedings against parents who fail to ensure the regular attendance of their child/ren.

What We Are Looking For From You
The successful candidate will need to have professional experience of working with children and young people in a multi-agency environment. A comprehensive understanding of safeguarding is essential. Additionally you will have good interpersonal skills including a good standard of written communication and competent IT skills. Proven experience in raising levels of school attendance, and current, up to date knowledge of both national and local attendance issues is desirable.

The post will be based at home or County Hall but will involve work in schools across the city. A full driving licence and own car is essential for the post.
