Cardiff and Vale College are looking for a Senior Head of Department for our Learner Journey and Inclusive Learning departments. You will lead motivate & inspire the individuals, teams and learners within your departments. This role will lead the Inclusive Learning and Learner Journey teams. The role will include the ALNCo statutory position and will also be part of the senior safeguarding team.
This is an exciting new role at CAVC and as part of the role you will:
  • Develop best practice in relation to Additional Learning Needs, Support, Safeguarding, Learner Voice and Learner Experience to ensure Government priorities are addressed across all areas of the College's provision.
  • Lead the effective development and implementation of the College's Learner experience, behaviour and support strategies, policies, procedures and systems to continually improve the Learner Journey.
  • Provide analysis and reporting of performance of all aspects off the areas, driving relevant, agreed KPIs. Ensure that challenging targets are set with robust performance management
  • Lead the College in meeting the requirements of the Welsh Government's Additional Learning Needs and Educational Tribunal Act 2018 and Code of Practice.
  • To be the named ALNCo for the institution in accordance with the ALN Act 2018 and Code of Practice.
  • Lead the College's additional learning needs, disability and learning difficulty support to provide an excellent service for all learners.
  • Ensure your teams deliver inclusive services to support students across the College at all stages of the student journey to contribute to high levels of retention, achievement, attainment and progression.
You will have a sound educational background (degree or equivalent) or demonstrable commensurate experience as well as a relevant post-graduate qualification e.g. PGCE, MA SEN/ALN. A Level 3 Safeguarding Qualification would also be desirable for this role.

Whilst the ability to speak Welsh is not essential for the role, we would love to hear from candidates who are fluent and can engage with learners through the medium of Welsh.
