About The Service
Nyth y Deryn is our new school based in Leckwith. We are part of the Bryn y Deryn family of schools. At Nyth y Deryn, we work with for 90 learners who have behavioural, emotional, mental health and social difficulties. Our school provides supports for learners from high schools across the City of Cardiff. We aim to support these learners and their schools to overcome obstacles to educational success. We are resourceful. We are committed and we never have problems just solutions we haven't found yet.

Nyth y Deryn provides education and wellbeing for learners with challenging behavioural, emotional and social difficulties as well as for learners with emotional based school avoidance. The vision for this school is for the majority of learners to reintegrate back into mainstream schools but you need to have the flexibility and commitment to work with individual need. This means being resourceful and adaptable in your approach. Possessing a strong commitment to working with families, home contacts, external agencies and schools.

These roles will be based at our provision for learners in year 7, 8 & 9. This is based at the old Fitzalan High School which has undergone extension building works to create an exciting new place to learn and grow.

Senior Teaching Assistants will have a main responsibility of
  • ALN & literacy and numeracy interventions
  • Engagement (behaviour) and wellbeing
  • Safeguarding Assistant

Some posts are starting asap and some posts are starting September
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful applicant will work as part of a team and have previous experience of working with learners who have behaviour social and mental health problems and be able to empathise with pupils' difficulties in a cover/leading learning and intervention capacity.

This is an opportunity for persons with empathy, energy, commitment and enthusiasm to make a positive impact to the school and young people.

Additional information
This post carries an additional SEN payment.

This post are part time and will work 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. The salary shown however relates to 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year and will therefore be pro-rata'd accordingly.

These posts have a requirement for registration with the Education Workforce Council.

These posts are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
