About the School

The Governing Body of Ysgol Robert Owen is seeking to appoint an outstanding, dynamic, creative, and forward-thinking Deputy Headteacher, to work closely with our Headteacher to further the achievements of this happy, caring and vibrant Special School.

Ysgol Robert Owen is an up and coming, ambitious special needs school for children and young people with profound, severe, and complex needs, many of whom are on the Autistic Spectrum. We believe in our ethos, Nature, Nurture, Knowledge

In September 2024 we will be moving into our new, state of the art, 21 st century, multi-million-pound, purpose-built building in Newtown, Powys and starting our journey as Ysgol Robert Owen. This unique learning environment will have a truly remarkable and positive impact upon our children's education for generations to come and the professional development of our staff.

The school building will be a unique and genuine reflection of our core values and ethos. As a school community we carefully consider what sets us apart. 'Inspiring,' 'understanding,' 'brave,' 'enthusiastic,' 'vibrant,' 'committed,' and 'caring,' are just some of the words that define and guide our daily interaction with the children.

We have very high expectations/aspirations for all the pupils. We are constantly striving to ensure that they all achieve their maximum potential, celebrate our differences, always encouraging curiosity and creativity. We have a strong and committed staff team who work hard to ensure that everyone's needs, interests and abilities are met. We ensure that each of our pupils becomes a resilient individual who has a range of options and can make positive life choices.

Our learning, enjoyment and engagement will be supported by remarkable facilities, which include the bespoke teaching environments of a food technology room, design and technology room, art area, hydro-pool, sports hall, play areas, rebound therapy room and exceptionally well- equipped therapeutic areas. This is a game changing facility and will be at the forefront of the development of ALN provision within Powys and Wales as a whole.

Ysgol Robert Owen has a happy learning environment where "Excellence meets opportunity" and this encapsulates the type of learning we promote within our community. As we believe it is just as important for our staff to develop, we will support and develop your expertise and professionalism.

We are looking for a candidate who:
  • Can think outside of the box, be dynamic, drive improvements forward yet be thoughtful and diligent
  • Has proven management and leadership experience in a school, preferably within the ALN sector.
  • Is an inspirational teacher who leads by exemplary practice and can drive up the quality of teaching across the school.

  • Has high expectations and aspirations and will promote and celebrate the achievements of all our children.
  • Is organised with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Will inspire and motivate our staff and children whilst making them feel valued and supported.
  • Will continue to promote a strong sense of engagement with parents and the wider school community.
