About The ServiceNyth y Deryn a new PRU. We are part of the Bryn y Deryn family of schools. At Nyth y Deryn, we work with for 90 KS3 learners who have behavioural, emotional, mental health and social difficulties. Our school provides supports for high schools across the City of Cardiff. We aim to support these learners and their schools to overcome obstacles to educational success. We are resourceful. We are committed and we never have problems just solutions we haven't found yet.

Welsh Medium Teaching Assistant
Nyth y Deryn provides education and wellbeing for learners with challenging behavioural, emotional and social difficulties as well as for learners with emotional based school avoidance. High quality learning and excellent care, support and guidance are at the heart of our school. As is a commitment to trauma informed approaches. The vision for this school is for the majority of learners to reintegrate back into mainstream schools but you need to have the flexibility and commitment to work with individual need. This means being resourceful and adaptable in your approach. Possessing a strong commitment to working with families, home contacts, external agencies and schools.
These roles will be based at our provision for learners in year 7, 8 & 9. This is based at the old Bryn y Deryn site in Mynachdy CF14 3HS.
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful applicant will work as part of a team and have some previous experience of working with learners who have emotional behaviour social and mental health problems and be able to empathise with learners' difficulties. They will be able to support teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of individual learners. This is an opportunity for persons with empathy, energy, commitment and enthusiasm to make a positive impact to the school and young people.
Additional information
This post is part time and will work 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. The salary shown however relates to 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year and will therefore be pro-rata'd accordingly.
This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £12.00 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
The successful applicant(s) should be able to communicate effectively in Welsh to Level 5 - Proficient.
This post has a requirement for registration with the Education Workforce Council.
