We currently have a vacancy for a lecturer in ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) at our Yale Campus

Experience of teaching ESOL within the UK is essential (ideally including a range of different levels from beginners/E1 through to Level 2). Typically over 65% of our learners are beginner/entry level learners. The reasons learners have for accessing ESOL classes range from needing to learn the language to access support services, to integrate into local communities, to be able to support their children as well as to progress onto higher level FE/HE courses or into employment. Due to the nature of ESOL learners and ESOL provision, being able to deliver differentiated sessions is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will also have proven organisational ability which will help you to balance the teaching and administration requirements of the role. You will also work well as part of a team and be willing to work flexibly, including evenings as well as working independently to write schemes of learning and develop resources to engage and motivate your learners. As an individual you will be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults.

A knowledge or understanding of the national ESOL agenda and a commitment to achieving targets in line with that agenda is important to the delivery of the provision

With an awareness of the importance of quality standards within teaching, you will have knowledge of a broad range of learning needs and how to support these needs within a learning environment and demonstrate an understanding of current developments within your own specialist area. You should be open and responsive to the needs of others and be able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and new ideas.

Essential Requirements
  • Qualified or willing to work towards CELTA at grade B or over (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages) or other recognised ESOL teaching qualification.
  • You will be a qualified Teacher and hold either a PGCE, Cert Ed or C&G 7407
  • Develop and use a range of learning and teaching techniques and prepare effective written and visual teaching materials
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current developments within your own specialist area and ways of keeping up to date with such developments
  • Knowledge of the broad range of learning needs and how to support these needs within a learning environment
  • Be able to analyse and use key information to inform teaching and learning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong team player, displaying energy and enthusiasm in the learning environment
  • Proficient in MS Office and ideally in Google applications and using the internet and intranet
