Support Worker (Teaching Assistant) - Pupil Referral Unit

Torfaen Local Authority

Salary: Grade 5 | SCP 11-17 | £25,979 - £28,770 PRO RATA

Torfaen PRU opened in June 2009. It is a PRU that provides education for children and young people experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioural difficulties, those who have been permanently excluded or are awaiting a managed move, or those whose anxiety or medical needs prevent them from attending school.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced support worker who will assist learning in the classroom and on a one to one basis. We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled and committed person who is able to form positive, professional relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents, carers and multi-agency partners. You will have recent and relevant experience of working with pupils at KS3 and KS4 who present with challenging behaviours in a PRU or special school educational setting, display a growing awareness of current national curriculum reform initiatives and developments and be fully committed to continuing professional learning. You will have a minimum education to level 2 and above, have good literacy and numeracy skills and be confident to work with and support pupils following the National Curriculum (KS3) and GCSE Courses (KS4).

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not essential.
