We currently have a vacancy for a lecturer in Advanced Engineering to work within our 'state-of-the-art' engineering facility where our students can learn in both classroom and workshop environments. Displaying energy and enthusiasm in the learning environment, you will perform scheduled teaching, prepare learning materials, mark students' work, liaise with awarding bodies and conduct exam invigilation as required, and provide educational guidance, support and counselling for all students. You will be a dedicated team player who can establish effective working relationships and will liaise with tutors from other business areas with regard to resources, curriculum development, student reports and other related matters, and complete and produce documentation such as registers, schemes of work, records of work, course reviews, course analysis documentation and student reports.

We are looking for an individual who is qualified to a minimum of Level 5 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with knowledge and skills to teach a range of core BTEC units and specialist engineering units from level 3 to level 5, including; mechanical/electrical principles, engineering mathematics, engineering science and analysis. You will be able to share your skills and industry knowledge to wide ranging groups of apprentices and full time FE and HE learners. You will have a desire to undertake ongoing professional development including learning new skills in the field of engineering to support teaching and learning development across the department, as well as staying abreast of the latest developments in industry.

Topic areas at levels 4 to 5 could include, but are not limited to:
  • Applications of Differential Equations and Integral Transforms to solve engineering problems using a variety of analytical and computational methods; Vector Calculus
  • CAD/CAM (Solidworks / Inventor experience preferable)
  • Process control and automation
  • 3-Phase power systems and drives

Essential Requirements
  • Qualified to at least Level 5 in a relevant specialist subject area
  • Able to identify, interpret and apply specific knowledge to practise
  • Demonstrates an understanding of current developments within own specialist area and ways of keeping up to date with such developments
  • Recognises and makes students aware of their strengths and development needs
  • Able to develop and use a range of teaching and learning techniques and prepare effective written and visual teaching materials
  • Creative, innovative and imaginative with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and new ideas
