Cardiff and Vale College's Foundation Learning department deliver courses for young people with Additional Learning Needs and/or Disabilities and those at risk of becoming NEET. The department grows year on year and our curriculum for 2023/24 includes 32 courses for 400+ potential learners across 4 different sites. Our person centred and outcome driven courses are organised into the following areas:
An exciting opportunity has become available to work as a Coach with our Foundation of Study Courses
This role involves supporting learners on Vocational Access courses to ensure their engagement in learning. This job relies on a person centred and flexible approach to meeting learner needs. This will involve working with small groups and individual learners in the classroom or Vocational settings to support teaching and learning. It will also involve working in a pastoral capacity; supporting learners to regulate and to engage in wider support services ensuring their retention and wellbeing.
The role will require understanding of the impact of a culture of kindness and candidates will demonstrate a trauma informed practice. Part of this will involve being the emotionally available adult for learners and will require strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage risk for learners at crisis. The role will involve sharing information and working collaboratively with Learner Journey support services and Foundation Learning curriculum team.
There are 3 roles available:
- Full Time - 1 x 37hrs (5 days a week) x 36 weeks to provide wrap-around support to learners at our City Centre Campus
- Part Time 1 x 30hrs (4 days a week) x 36 weeks to provide wrap-around support to learners at Colcot Rd Campus
- Part Time 1 x 22.5hrs (3 days a week) x 36weeks to provide wrap-around support to learners at CWCHS & EHCHS
