Creative Technician - Photography and Print FTC until October 2025

An exciting vacancy is available as a Photography and Print Technician in the Creative department at Cardiff and the Vale College. This post will be based at the City Centre Campus, Dumballs Road, Cardiff.

Responsibilities include:

• Co-ordinate the setting up and management of all technical facilities and equipment within the department to ensure that, lecturers, students and other users are provided with practical help and support. Previous skills or ability to use professional Photographic and graphic printers to assist students with producing high quality images.
• To Oversee, Co-ordinate and conduct regular & routine maintenance of all facilities and teaching areas within photography specialist rooms, ensuring a clean & safe working environment.
• General maintenance of the Creative specialist classrooms and work areas cleaning, organising and relocating equipment in the specialist working areas. Maintaining the booking systems of photographic equipment and photography rooms.
• Assisting lecturing staff during practical lesson, examinations, exhibitions by preparing equipment and supervising technical work and demonstrating where appropriate.
• Completing routine maintenance and equipment checks as listed in schedules or as directed by the lecturer in charge and assisting in the annual check of inventories, ordering and receiving goods. Responsible for Stock Control in the Creative section, monitoring, ordering, safe storage and maintaining stock and stock records.
• Oversee and advise on the Installation, maintenance and repair of computers and configuration of software used within the department.
• To Oversee & Co-ordinate systems and procedures, for the booking & loan of equipment and studio facilities to students, staff and customers, both internal and external.
• Instruct and supervise students in the use of digital camera, lighting, analogue film cameras & chemical darkroom equipment in addition to guided learning sessions.
• Ensure that staff and students are compliant with Health & Safety procedures, ensuring that safe working practices are observed at all times; ensuring all students successfully complete safety inductions for the use of studios and chemical darkroom.
• Welsh language skills are not essential but would be desirable for this role.
