About the RoleThe ability to speak Welsh is essential for this post.
As part of the Education Portfolio, you will work within the values and strategic aims of Wrexham County Borough Council. You will contribute to the work of the School Improvement Service and the Welsh Advisory Service, supporting the local authority and its schools to strengthen the teaching and learning of Welsh.
You will:
Lead on the Siarter Iaith within Category 2 and 3 schools ensuring a golden thread through from Primary to Secondary
Support Welsh language development and school improvement to ensure high-quality education for every learner
Help create a positive, supportive and ambitious context for all schools in Wrexham
Provide effective advice, support and training to schools
Lead and further develop the authority's provision for learners who are new to the Welsh language, mainly within the county's Welsh-medium primary schools
Lead networks and the Welsh Cymraeg Campus in secondary schools, supporting them with immersion approaches
Ensure high-quality immersion experiences for learners new to Welsh-medium education
Support schools to secure strong progress and outcomes for learners new to the Welsh language
The Education Portfolio plays a central role in raising standards, ensuring pupil progress, and providing high-quality provision for all.
Main Responsibilities
Support the Welsh Education Transformation Manager with delivery of the Council's Welsh in Education Strategic Plan and any related national strategies, including Cymraeg 2050.
Work in partnership with Wrexham schools to provide advice and support on Welsh immersion teaching and learning, in line with statutory requirements and policies.
Contribute to the development and delivery of continuous professional learning on language learning methodology, including professional learning networks, to improve provision and raise standards.
Support the design and delivery of specific programs that address identified and prioritised needs within schools - Welsh and English-medium
Maintain and develop subject expertise by researching current resources, methodologies and digital tools for learning and teaching Welsh
Strengthen continuity and progression of language across phases through effective transition arrangements and ensuring the "golden thread" between primary and secondary
Support schools to plan structured Welsh language development across the curriculum and to share effective practice in teaching, learning and assessment
Collaborate with colleagues at county, regional and national levels through relevant working groups and consultation activities
Attend team meetings, share best practice, and report on completed work in a timely and accurate manner
Take responsibility for ongoing professional learning and carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role
Special Working Conditions
The role includes working with teachers in the classroom and contributing to and leading professional learning to develop all aspects of language.
The nature of the work may require the post holder to work outside normal working hours at times
The post holder may occasionally be required to attend training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required for their own development and the needs of the service
