An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for 5 enthusiastic individuals to join a newly established detached team within Blaenau Gwent Youth Service. The team will operate in pairs and will help provide a range of activities, mentoring, support and provide information and guidance to young people through a detached youth work model.

As a Detached Youth Worker, you will work as part of a small team of youth workers, working with young people on the streets in their territory. The Detached Youth Worker will also be responsible for planning and delivering a programme of led by and supported by the young people.

You will develop strong links with partners and the surrounding community to help meet the needs of the young people and community; to provide a holistic programme of work, whilst also addressing barriers some young people may face.

Based remotely on a detached basis, you will also have experience of working face to face with young people in a variety of settings. Some previous experience of working with young people through a detached work model is essential.

Required skills include:
  • excellent interpersonal / communication skills with the ability to relate to and enthuse young people,
  • the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team,
  • the ability to assess the needs of young people and develop appropriate programme of works, and a high level of personal resilience, including the ability to manage conflict and deal with stressful situations.
  • the ability to demonstrate impact through monitoring and recording of work-based data utilising digital platforms.
  • The ability to drive the Youth work van (full UK driving licence required)
