RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
ESSENTIAL
• A Level 3 course in Youth Work must be completed during the first 2 years of the post
• Experience of working one to one with Young people
• Experience of working with groups of young people
• Wide experience of delivering accredited training programmes
• Information about accreditation schemes from external bodies (ASDAN, Agored Cymru, Duke of Edinburgh Award, John Muir, BTEC, Children's University)

DESIRED
• Qualification or working towards an Accreditation Assessment qualification
• Level 3 qualification in Youth Work

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
• Extensive experience in presenting and delivering accreditation programs in an informal context
• Evidence of success when working with young people and adults in an informal education situation

Listening and Speaking - Intermediate Level
Being able to hold a conversation easily on a number of different topics every day, and discuss cases related to the work area. Being able to follow a discussion in Welsh, in Clear Welsh, on familiar issues related to the job. Being able to contribute to the conversation and answer questions.

Reading and Comprehension - Intermediate Level
Understand everyday correspondence on familiar issues at work. Understand longer reports in Clear Welsh and be able to pick up the main points. (You may need help with vocabulary.)

Writing - Intermediate Level
Being able to write letters for a specific purpose, e-mail messages and short reports through the medium of Welsh and English using vocabulary and simple expressions that are familiar to the field of work. (They will need to be checked before being sent out).

Job Description

Purpose of the Job.
• Ensuring that the people of Gwynedd are central to everything we do
• Planning, coordinating and providing a program of activities and projects for young people based on catchment area
• Building wide networks so that this work can be developed to the maximum.
• Collaborate with the rest of the Youth Service Team to ensure that the youth support work transitions smoothly into the community youth work
• Implement a program of activities and projects ensuring the best experience for young people

Responsibility for Resources. . e.g. staff, funding, equipment
• The Youth Worker will be responsible for the supervision and organization of the projects. He will also be responsible for equipment ensuring that it meets health and safety requirements.

Main Duties. .
• Work directly with young people to develop their social skills by offering a wide program of activities that lead towards accreditation / qualification during school time and that transition to the community
• Prepare, organise, plan, evaluate, organize and manage resources for each project
• Ensuring a space where a young person has the opportunity to enjoy themselves, feel safe, get support, be valued, learn how to take control of their lives and recognize and oppose harmful influences that can affect them
• Building a positive relationship with the Schools' Pastoral Team and the Youth Service Team
• Providing a program of activities / projects in the schools during school term and community provision during school holidays
• Attend standardization and training meetings organized by awarding bodies
• Introducing the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Schools
• Develop a range of learning opportunities for young people using informal methods of youth work, within the school and the community, which are suitable for the needs of the young people.
• Introducing accreditation programs in the schools and in the communities
• Enable young people to access recognized achievements (e.g. ASDAN Youth Challenge and Youth Achievement Schemes, Agored Cymru, Duke of Edinburgh Award, John Muir Award, Children's University).
• Motivate young people by giving them a sense of achievement and recognition
• Collaborate with School Staff, Education Department, YOTs, Social Services and Community Safety and other agencies that can be beneficial in supporting a young person.
• Ensure that a clear and accurate record of work is fed into the information management system in accordance with the requirements of all the relevant agencies, and in accordance with the requirements of the respective agencies' policies and systems.
• Attend planning meetings of the schools and the youth service, review meetings etc. as needed
• Attend moderation and training meetings organized by awarding bodies, and to cascade information about new developments to other members of the youth work team
• Comply with any procedures and systems of the Service
• Develop and expand the projects' curriculum by fostering relationships with agencies and providers including consulting with young people, working together with schools and other education providers
• Responsibility for entering any information required for the information collection system
• Coordinating with the Occupational Standards for Youth Work, the Rights of the Child
• Prepare progress reports on his/her work
• Attending Youth Service meetings taking full part in the discussions and sharing information with the teams
• Organizing and holding events, providing projects and activities during school holidays together with the Community Workers
• Search for grants in order to develop the work further
• Offer volunteering opportunities locally and abroad
• Ensure that any report is completed by the designated time
• Ensuring that a Young person's Voice is heard through everything that is proposed and developed
• In liaison with the manager to ensure suitable development of performance measurement and gathering information from work to be able to measure the effectiveness of the plan and achieve objectives set with reporting and planning arrangements.
• Attend training for youth workers organized by, or on behalf of, the Council
• Responsibility for equipment register including Duke of Edinburgh Award equipment for the Accreditation Administrator
• Act as Site Manager at the request of the Manager
• Responsibility for self development.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council's Health and Safety Policy.
• Acting within the Council's policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
• Responsibility for managing information in accordance with the Council's information management standards and guidelines. Ensure that personal information is handled in compliance with Data Protection legislation
