An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual who is committed to improving the outcomes for learners with significant and highly complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties to apply for the post of Deputy Head of Centre at Ty Gwyn Education Centre.

Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a secondary age Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in a newly refurbished building in the Aberdare area, serving the whole of RCT and learners from age 11 to 16 years.

Ty Gwyn Education Centre offers specialist provision for up to 64 learners with behavioural, emotional and social needs that cannot be met in their mainstream school. Learners are a mixture of full and part time (KS3 only) and access a broad and balanced curriculum of core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and a range of vocational and foundation subjects. There is a growing emphasis on developing learner wellbeing and mental health and Ty Gwyn is a Trauma Informed School with a growing team of therapeutic support staff.

As a Deputy Head of Centre at Ty Gwyn Education Centre, you will share responsibilities with other senior leaders across raising standards, curriculum development, learner engagement and behaviour, your duties will be tailored to your strengths and experience. Leadership and a highly visible personal presence are essential with a belief in the potential of all learners to overcome and succeed.

Ty Gwyn Education Centre has recently been recognised by Estyn as having demonstrated significant improvement since its inspection 2019 and continues to improve under the strong and effective leadership of the Head of Centre, SLT and TLR team.
