ADVANCED COVER SUPERVISOR
Hours: 32.5 hours per week – Term Time

A post has arisen for a dynamic, flexible and enthusiastic Advanced Cover Supervisor.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a secondary age Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in a newly refurbished building in the Aberdare area, serving the whole of RCT and learners from age 11 to 16 years.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre offers specialist provision for up to 60 learners with behavioural, emotional and social needs that cannot be met in their mainstream school. Learners are a mixture of full and part time (KS3 only) and access a broad and balanced curriculum of core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and a range of vocational and foundation subjects. Ty Gwyn is a trauma informed setting and has trained staff extensively in this area to support learners.
The post of Advanced Cover Supervisor will require you to provide cover for teachers who are absent and cover for planning, preparation and assessment sessions for teaching staff. Wider duties include:
• Lead and manage interventions and other activities when not required to cover classes.
• Asses learning needs and devise alternative means of facilitating learning
• Manage a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, following school specific policies
• Provide specialist care to those pupils with significant needs
• Promote inclusion and ensure all have equal access to opportunities
• Monitor and evaluate pupil progress. Provide detailed feedback to teachers on pupil achievement, progress and problems
• Supervise other staff, allocating and checking work, instructing and monitoring staff within the classroom
• Provide teaching staff with support as required
The Advanced Cover Supervisor is required to keep detailed records and report these to senior staff as appropriate. As the ACS, you will be supporting and guiding children and young people to make positive choices and engage in learning. You will be a role model, a lifelong learner and a trusted responsible figure. You will be providing support in response to need, dynamically working with children, young people and families at a focussed level. You will need to be able to use ICT proficiently to record and share important information and contribute to reports and meetings in this area.
