Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Pen Y Cwm Special School

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council

Salary: Grade 6 (£30,825 - £34,834 per annum/pro rata) - 32.5 hours per week/Term Time Only

We are looking to employ a HLTA to support learners across the school. This may include supporting our wellbeing team, working with targeted individuals, in small groups or in whole class settings covering PPA.

You may be required to plan, deliver and assess teaching and learning on a 1:1, small group or whole class basis across the full age range of our school in the absence of the class teacher.

You will need to be flexible in providing both planned and unplanned support to meet the needs of our learners.

The post would suit someone with flexibility, enthusiasm and sensitivity as well as an excellent understanding of ALN. The ideal candidate will have experience of effective classroom management techniques. They will be supported by a compassionate middle and senior leadership team in order to develop their own leadership skills.

The candidate must be willing to demonstrate they are a team player alongside our established team of HLTAs, maintaining our core values by:
  • Enabling learners to be successful through developing and supporting excellent attitudes to learning
  • Building strong relationships with learners across the school, enabling learning to continue in the absence of their class teacher.

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills. You must be resourceful, positive, emotionally resilient and have a holistic approach to supporting the needs of children and young people. An ability to contribute to the warm, caring ethos of our school is essential.

Pen Y Cwm Special School is committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of our learners and we fully comply with safer recruitment practice. Pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is offered and all posts are subject to an enhanced clearance by the Disclosing and Barring Service.
