DescriptionColeg Sir Gar have an exciting opportunity for an ALN Transition & Examinations Officer, based at our Graig Campus in Llanelli. This is a fixed term contract until 31st July 2025.

This Additional Learning Need (ALN) Transition Officer role will enable the College to provide improved support for the transition process of learners with ALN and Autism through supporting learner reviews and planning for a successful transition. The postholder will test the effectiveness of the existing support provided through facilitating annual reviews using person-centred practice. They will also ensure that the approaches to service delivery directly contribute to positive learner outcomes, improved success rates, increased employability and appropriate progression for every learner.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe ALN Transition Officer will be expected to:
  • Liaise with the education and advice providers e.g. Careers Wales, local schools and care providers with the aim of identifying appropriate provision for young people with ALN/Autism when transitioning to the College;
  • Liaise with students, families/carers, and college staff to assess and monitor the implementation of the transition plans;
  • Liaise with Registry and the Examinations department to support applications for Exam Access
  • Arrangements (EAA), with appropriate guidance and training;
  • Act as a key contact for young people, parents/carers, schools, local authorities and other stakeholders;
  • Engage with potential new learners from local schools and other agencies and create meaningful transition opportunities for learners with Additional Learning Needs and Disabilities (ALND) into college, while proactively responding to the changing governmental strategies and policies for this area;
  • Accurately maintain individual learner transition files and database records and use those to quantitatively and qualitatively analyse the service;
  • Ensure that all academic and support teams are provided with timely support information, requirements and transition details for individual learners;
  • Assist the ALNCo and Learning Support Coordinators with IDP/LSP reviews using person centred techniques and ensure that all relevant stakeholders are identified and have an opportunity to contribute;
  • Liaise with Faculty staff to identify and support ASD learners by creating One Page Profiles and Behaviour Support Plans and monitor progress;
  • Ensure that reviews are timely, robust and support each young person's aspirations towards adulthood;
  • Ensure that all one-page profiles are reviewed and targets are set and reviewed every year;
  • Attend, contribute and participate in Learner Experience team meetings as and when necessary;
  • Proactively liaise with the ALNCo and Wellbeing Team to ensure that additional learning support requirements are accurately identified appropriately;
  • Participate in training as and when necessary;
  • Represent the Learner Experience team at open evenings, parent/carer information events and local school events, acting as an ambassador for the College.

Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience or knowledge of Exam Access Arrangements

Welsh Language Requirements:
  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 1/2
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 1/2
