Coleg Sir Gar have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Electrical Installation based at our Ammanford Campus. The post provides the opportunity for a pro-active person to deliver high quality teaching and learning on Electrical installation course (levels 1-3) at the Ammanford Campus. The successful applicant will work 37 hours per week on a permanent basis as part of the construction and agriculture faculty. As an electrical installation lecturer, you will have the opportunity to deliver high quality teaching and learning on Electrical installation course (levels 1-3).

The Curriculum Area of Construction forms part of the Construction and Agriculture faculty. The construction provision is based at the Ammanford Campus and includes building crafts, building services, schools, construction technical and higher education. Part of the schools provision is also delivered off site at Bryngwyn school. The Curriculum Area team has over thirty full-time and part-time members which includes teaching, assessing and support staff. The Curriculum Area also has extensive links with industry winning many national awards for collaborative partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of programmes of study leading to qualifications within Electrical Installation from Level 1 to 3.You will need to be able to deliver both in a classroom and workshop environments and demonstrate safe systems of working in the delivery of practical sessions.
  • Contribute to the management of this subject areas;
  • Provide support, as a member of the team in the administration and resource development within the Section at Ammanford and assist with the development of teaching & learning materials;
  • Assist in the provision of through liaison with industry and in the development of commercial courses;
  • Contribute to the quality of provision through the internal verification system;
  • Prepare relevant teaching & learning materials for assigned subjects;
  • Prepare resource material and facilities in support of the assigned teaching;
  • Contribute to course team functional requirements;
  • Undertake all assessment activity to assigned subjects;
  • Ensure all classroom and practical training facilities comply with health and safety and other legislative requirements;
  • Liaise with third party stakeholders as identified by faculty management, including, sector skills councils, HE institutions, industry bodies, employers etc;
  • Undertake the role of personal tutor for groups of learners;
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.

Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
  • Electrical Installation related L3 NVQ Diploma qualification or equivalent
  • GCSE English & Maths at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly

Desirable Criteria:
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
  • Awareness of key performance indicators
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • A current driving licence
  • Willingness to drive a college minibus
  • Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities

Welsh Language Requirements:

  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
