Glan-y-Mor is a forward-looking school that is embracing the New Curriculum in September and therefore this is an opportunity for an innovative and creative teaching assistant to join the school at this exciting time, as alongside this we begin to develop our specialist provision.
We are looking for a well-qualified, inspirational and motivated person who is keen to be part of a dedicated and enthusiastic team to support the class. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual to work in an environment that prides itself on working collaboratively to maximize the potential of all its pupils. The successful candidate would be expected to bring an innovative, dynamic and ambitious approach to the class and must demonstrate the ability to:
- Support individual pupils in accessing learning.
- Work within the team to inform, guide and plan learning.
- Show initiative in dealing with a range of challenges.
The primary role of the Level 1 teaching assistant is to support pupils within the Centre and in mainstream lessons. The pupils will have a variety of complex needs including severe learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and potentially challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the class teachers and HLTA, and will work with a small group of pupils within a classroom context. They will be required to use their own initiative, and adapt curriculum materials. The ability to use Sign a Long and PECS would be an advantage, as would the ability to drive a school minibus.
Candidates should thrive on the development and leadership opportunities presented, be an outstanding classroom practitioner and consistently demonstrate the highest standards of support and delivery. The school is committed to raising attainment across all key stages with all pupils and successful applicants need to champion this ethos and demonstrate a sound understanding of the strategies required to achieve this. We are fully committed to the ongoing professional development of all our staff. The successful applicant would be joining an emerging team in an exciting phase of development of our school.
Glan-y-Môr and Bryngwyn School are part of a federation that strives to develop excellent standards and opportunities for all its pupils. In this context, the successful candidate would be expected to work collaboratively and closely with colleagues across the federation, but will be based at Glan Y Mor.
Glan-y-Môr has shown significant improvement over time and the latest Estyn Inspection (2017) for both schools recorded that both the Current Performance and Prospect for Improvement for the school are both Excellent.
