This role is suited to an experienced middle leader or an existing senior leader who has a desire to widen their contribution and experience in the area of Teaching & Learning, Assessment and Skills development.

Bryngwyn & Glan-y-Môr Federation has created a community of schools where colleagues are committed to raising achievement and aspiration. This vacancy comes about as we look to widen the Leadership capacity within the existing Leadership team across our Federation. The post offers an exceptional opportunity for a hard-working individual with excellent ideas for innovation and outstanding leadership skills. The successful candidate must:

be an outstanding and reflective practitioner with high expectations and a commitment to success for all learners;
  • be passionate about raising student achievement and aspirations;
  • show commitment to the Federation's vision and ethos;
  • be creative, innovative and able to inspire and get the best from others;
  • be resilient and have a good sense of humour;
  • have proven leadership experience and the potential to develop further;
  • be able to offer a real presence around the school and become a focal point for their areas of responsibility;
  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • have an ability to assimilate the changing knowledge and legislation around educational change and policy;
  • be committed to working collaboratively with all members of our school community to achieve the highest standards.

This is a senior role in our schools with substantial responsibility and the opportunity to have a real impact on the running of the Federation. Whilst the precise roles and responsibilities may be tailored to the successful candidate, the key responsibility areas for the posts are to:
  • Lead the whole-school vision and strategy for high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of consistent, effective assessment practices across all key stages.
  • Support effective professional learning and development for staff to improve pedagogy and learner outcomes.
  • Lead and manage key staff in the provision for cross-curricular skills development, including Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Competence, in line with the Curriculum for Wales.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment through robust quality assurance processes.
  • Support middle leaders in implementing evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Contribute to the wider leadership and strategic direction of the school as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

The successful candidates will be afforded the full support of the Federation and the governing body in developing their CPD to aspire towards further career development.

The Federation is committed to raising attainment across the entire age range and successful applicants need to champion this ethos and demonstrate a sound understanding of the strategies required to achieve this in the school that they work in. However, successful candidates will be expected to work collaboratively and closely with colleagues across the Federation.

We are fully committed to the ongoing professional development of all our staff.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Bryngwyn and Glan-y-Môr Schools are both equal opportunities employers.

Context of the Federation

The Federation of Bryngwyn and Glan-y-Môr Schools took place in September 2014 and was the first secondary federation in Wales. It has been hugely successful for both schools. The schools are six miles apart, share an Executive Headteacher and have one Governing Body, both schools have their own identity, operate separate budgets and serve their respective communities. Both schools are in strong financial positions and have recently completed adaptions and improvements to their buildings. We have a collective vision to provide the best possible education for all learners, irrespective of ability, and to ensure that all learners match or exceed their potential. Both schools are committed to the personal development of pupils and staff. Both are 11-16 schools with the majority of pupils transferring to Coleg Sir Gar, Llanelli, at 16. Glan y Môr has over 600 learners and Bryngwyn 1100. Since Federation in 2014, the School has met with real success and continues to go from strength to strength, which is evidenced by both outcomes and Estyn reports.
