The Construction Technical and Professional section sits within the Built Environment Curriculum Area. The Curriculum Area's construction provision is based on the Ammanford Campus and includes building crafts, building services, schools, construction technical and higher education. The Curriculum Area team has over forty full-time and part-time members including teaching, assessing and support staff. It offers significant commercial, community and project activities and has an envious record of skills development and active learner participation in local, national and international skills competitions with noteworthy success. The Curriculum Area also has extensive links with industry partners.

The Construction Technical and Professional section delivers a range of technical and higher technical programmes in new and traditional construction as well as programmes in surveying and computer aided design. The successful candidate will join the existing team and will be expected to contribute to all aspects of this section as well as other provision within the Curriculum Area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of programmes of study leading to qualifications within a range of construction technology, management, green skills and other built environment related courses within further education and University franchised higher national, foundation and honours degree programmes;
  • Significantly contribute to the management of sections by taking responsibility for course and team management;
  • Liaise with third party stakeholders as identified by faculty management including relevant sector skills councils, industrial bodies, partner schools, employers and other higher education institutions;
  • Assist in the provision of courses through liaison with industry and in the development of new curriculum and commercial courses;
  • Contribute to the quality of provision through the internal verification and college quality systems;
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.

Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
  • Relevant industrial experience
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
  • Sound understanding of digital literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
Desirable Criteria:
  • Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at
    the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
  • Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
  • Relevant teaching experience on FE, HE and 14-19 schoolsprovision
  • A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
  • A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
  • Awareness of key performance indicators
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
  • Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
  • Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
Welsh Language Requirements:
  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
