Foundation Learning Progress Coach

Cardiff and Vale College's Foundation Learning department deliver courses for young people with Additional Learning Needs and/or Disabilities and those at risk of becoming NEET.

This role involves supporting the engagement and progress of learners on Accredited and non-accredited courses in the Foundation Learning department.

This job relies on a person centred and flexible approach to meeting learner needs. The role will require understanding of the impact of a culture of kindness and candidates will demonstrate a trauma informed practice. Part of this will involve being the emotionally available adult for learners and will require strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage risk for learners at crisis.

Foundation Learning Progress Coaches will use data and information from the wider course team to identify learners and implement coaching and intervention. Working collaboratively with departmental teams, cross-college support, and external partners agencies this role will focus on improving attendance, retention and wellbeing of learners within each identified department. As well as planned intervention, Coaches will be responsive to emerging need onsite, supporting learners to regulate and re-engage in lessons.

As part of this role there will be some need to work from home to work on data and to make contact with absent learners.

You will be educated to degree level or have relevant experience of providing person-centre support to young people within an educational setting. The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this role.
