The Agriculture Curriculum area forms part of the Construction & Agriculture faculty. The provision is based on the Gelli Aur Campus and includes Agriculture, Landbased Engineering, Horticulture, Forestry and Countryside Management courses delivered to Higher Education, Further Education, Work Based Learning and School 14-16 learners. The Curriculum Area team has over 15 full-time and part-time teaching, assessing and support staff. It also offers significant commercial, community and project activities and has an envious record of skills development. The Curriculum Area has extensive links with industry and associated stakeholder groups.
The College is the lead provider for Agricultural provision at level three in Wales, with a purpose-built Campus at Gelli Aur including a science laboratory, seminar rooms, ICT suites and engineering workshops. Our aim is to ensuring students enjoy a rewarding and stimulating learning experience that prepares them for a lifetime of employment in the land-based sector.
The post provides the opportunity for a pro-active person to deliver high quality teaching and learning on Landbased programmes at the Gelli Aur Campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of programmes of study leading to qualifications within a wide range of Agriculture courses from Level 1 to Honours Degree. You will need to be able to deliver both in a classroom and demonstrate safe systems of working in the delivery of practical sessions.
- contribute to the management of this subject area;
- provide support, as a member of the team in the administration and resource development within the Section at Gelli Aur and assist with the development of teaching & learning materials;
- assist in the provision of Agriculture through liaison with industry and in the development of commercial courses;
- contribute to the quality of provision through the internal verification system;
- prepare relevant teaching & learning materials for assigned subjects;
- prepare resource material and facilities in support of the assigned teaching;
- contribute to course team functional requirements;
- undertake all assessment activity to assigned subjects;
- ensure all classroom and practical training facilities comply with health and safety and other legislative requirements;
- Liaise with third party stakeholders as identified by faculty management, including, sector skills councils, HE institutions, industry bodies, employers etc;
- undertake the role of personal tutor for a group of learners;
- carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.
Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
- Relevant degree or equivalent higher education/advanced qualification
- Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, we will support you to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
- Level 3 agriculture-related vocational qualification (or equivalent)
- Relevant teaching experience
- Relevant Agricultural Industry Experience
- Good literacy and numeracy skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing
- Sound understanding of digital literacy
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
- A good understanding of relevant issues in post-16 education
- A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
- Awareness of key performance indicators
- Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
- Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
- Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
- A current driving licence
- Willingness to drive a college minibus
- Willingness to contribute to develop extra-curricular activities
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 3/4
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 3/4
