Job Description
Purpose
Provide assistance and support for the school's Heads of Key Stage 3/4 in all areas of pastoral care and pupil support.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Please note that the following is typical of the list of duties the post holder will be expected to perform within the role. It is not necessarily an exhaustive list and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required on occasion.
Pupil Support
• To develop and maintain effective relationships with learners
• To ensure that the welfare of all learners is promoted and safeguarded
• To comply with the school's safeguarding policy
• To take responsibility for ensuring the office safeguarding register is correct and up to date, to, support ensuring that the most vulnerable pupils are in school by 9:30am each day.
• To ensure appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained
• To follow existing school systems, policies, and procedures in the referring of issues to the appropriate person (Designated Safeguarding Leaders, Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, , form tutors, Heads of Faculty/Department, etc.) depending on the scale of the incident or type of information being handled.
• To provide general care and welfare by responding appropriately to the social, emotional, and physical needs of learners
• To communicate effectively with pupils who face barriers to their learning and persuade them to accept the range of potential support on offer
• To support pupils in maintaining positive relationships with their peers, including responding to accusations of rude, mean, or bullying behaviour.
• To be part of an on-call support network available for learners throughout the learning day
• To liaise with form tutors and the Progress LeadersStage to identify vulnerable pupils in need of pastoral intervention

• Under the guidance of Progress leaders, to work with and liaise with internal and external agencies as appropriate
• To liaise and communicate with all relevant staff regarding matters both pastoral and operational
• To support new pupils in transferring to Ysgol Friars
• To meet and liaise with parents as and when required
• To provide support to parents as and when required
• To support pupils in incorrect uniform and refer to the relevant member of SLT
• To produce and provide support materials for pupils as necessary
• To collect work from teachers for pupils on a long-term absence and arrange for it to be sent home
Behaviour Management
• To be proactive in supporting pupils who display challenging behaviour across the school,
• To develop, coordinate and run group sessions on relevant pupil courses such as anger management
• To issue, monitor and record behaviour reports following an exclusion
• Ensure appropriate level of pastoral care to individuals within the schools' inclusion room under the guidance of the Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral) and the schools pastoral team;
External Role
• To organise and maintain records relating to meetings that have been organised and attended by the Head of Year
• To provide appropriate liaison with outside agencies as required
• To represent the Progress LeadersStage in meetings in school with parents if required.
Attendance/ Punctuality
• To be proactive in the dealing with issues relating to attendance or punctuality
• To liaise with tutors, progress leaders and EWO to identify and support pupils with poor attendance or punctuality
• To identify and work with pupils and their parents/carers to improve low attendance rates, as part of LSIs (Learning Support Interviews) by mentoring them and highlighting strategies to improve attendance.
Rewards
• To use the school behaviour management system to award positive achievement points for pupils' positive contributions towards school
• To encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour, positive and negative.
• To contact parents on a regular basis to discuss positive behaviour
Other Responsibilities
• To ensure all duties and responsibilities are discharged in accordance with the school's health and safety at work policy
• To participate in the school's appraisal scheme, ensuring that performance standards and targets are set and met within the agreed timescale

• To manage and liaise with form tutors and the relevant administrative support assistant for your relevant year group
• To manage relevant year group and liaise with SLT link during a fire alarm
• To represent the school at parents' evenings and open evenings
