The current Hwb Leader has secured a well-deserved promotion to Deputy Headteacher. This is an exciting opportunity to join the school and enhance its provision to support students with additional learning needs, particularly those with social, emotional and behavioural and needs. Abersychan School has established a partnership with our local Noddfa Church, in the development of our offsite 'Hwb' provision, to improve educational experiences for a small group of students from in years 9, 10 and 11. The provision was highly commended by Estyn during the full inspection May 2025.
Abersychan School is an 11-16 comprehensive school which ensures that children of all abilities fulfil their potential. We are a school that is committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for their lives beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring that each child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 736 students, 48 teachers and 46 members of support staff. The school serves an area of socio-economic disadvantage and 30% of students are entitled to free school meals.
The aims of the school are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, musical and extracurricular activities. The students are happy, hard-working and positive about the school. They genuinely are an asset to our community and are incredibly friendly.
